Hi Adrian,

My name is Frances O Donnell, I attended the boatercross on sunday...I absolutely brilliant day, so did my brothers and another couple of my friends from the south. It is amazing to such ambition and support for an event like this.....
I not seen or heard tell off any Mayor or County Council presentative come to a kayaking prize giving and offer support like we seen in the Buncrana Youth Club last Sunday. I was also stunned and delighted to see so many juniors.....you guys put on such a good weekend ...congraulations. I would reccomend plugging this event more in south...as many of us are going to be doing now....
I am just doing up a wright up with photos and a link to the results on my Blog, and then on Irishfreestyle.com..... however before I do this I was wondering if I could get the Ladies Advanced Section put on the boatercross results...I know I was the only one there and hence got first and Im not looking for appraisal or anything like that but I do hope to encourage other ladies at that standard to come along next for a good competition and to have the section in the results will help... if there is not space or whatever no worries. Fab event...if it goes ahead next year we are already spreading the word of how good it was and can already guarantee more paddlers from the Dublin area coming along..... Im looking forward to it already.... My brother is also running a canoe club up in Gartan and was dissapointed he had not brought the juniors along this year. Keep up the good work, thanks Fran

Background

I started kayaking at the age of fifteen in October 1984. I have been coaching since 1986 – you do the maths!!! Since starting I have come through the BCU coaching scheme to leave me extremely well qualified to run all courses and to meet all needs. My favourite discipline was white water which has taken me all round Ireland, Scotland, the South French Alps, Italy and Austria. Out of all these places I prefer the French Alps. In my white water travels round Ireland there was not always white water so we hit the surf beaches of the north and west coast. As I got a bit older I realised that surf was also unreliable so I began sea kayaking.

Still to this day I have a great love for sea kayaking – there is nothing like a day on Inishtrahull, Ireland’s most northerly island – and this is a trip that not just anybody can make. Over the years I have paddled all of the North coast, a lot of the West coast and all of the main Irish islands. For coaching I work with Foyle Paddlers Canoe Club and I have been a member of this club since 1984.
I have also worked for BCU, Tollymore Mountain Centre and lots more besides. So if you want to get out on the water, explore the coast and rivers, learn new skills and meet new people, give us a call!
